Sign language is a form of communication that uses body language, gestures, and facial expressions instead of spoken words. It is a way for people who cannot hear or speak to communicate with others.
Sign language is used by people who are deaf or hard of hearing. It is also used by people who can hear but cannot speak, such as people who are unable to speak because of a physical disability or because they are mute.
Sign language is a visual language. It is made up of signs, which are movements of the hands, arms, and body, and of facial expressions and mouth movements. Sign language is different from spoken languages, which are made up of sounds.
There are many different sign languages. The most common sign language in the United States is American Sign Language (ASL). ASL is used by people who are deaf or hard of hearing in the United States, Canada, and parts of Mexico.
