Tourist Refund Scheme App Overview and Details
This is the Department of Home Affairs’ Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) Mobile application (the app).
The app will allow you to enter the information that is required to lodge a TRS claim. The app will save the information to your mobile device, allowing you to edit the claim over multiple sessions.
When you have finished entering your information it will be stored in a QR code on your device. This QR code is your TRS claim code. You must present your TRS claim code to an officer at the TRS counter on your departure from Australia.
If you successfully enter your claim details using this app, processing your claim at the TRS counter when you depart should be faster and you may be able to use a dedicated queue to lodge your TRS claim.
Whats New In this Tourist Refund Scheme?

The Tourist Refund Scheme is a great initiative that allows tourists to get a refund on the GST and wine equalisation tax that they have paid on certain goods that they have purchased while in Australia. The application process is simple and straightforward, and the refund can be claimed at any time within 60 days of leaving Australia. Good app
Good
Worthless, the Melbourne airport queues are horrible whether you have the app or not. Waiting 1 hour even with the qr code. Furthermore, after reaching the desk, they asked me to fill the paper form as the QR code does not work.
Cannot paste into input fields, inviting human error. Invoice number field is not long enough to capture full invoice numbers from Amazon AU.
Not working in both Android and iOS
I am using the android app and it doesn’t let me select yes for Australian resident. Everytime I select yes, it automatically select no for me. I would be in big trouble for providing false information when it’s not my fault.
Continually returns back to splash screen. Even after hitting save on an invoice, if the app changes from split screen to single, the expense is gone. If I swap between this app and another, the thing I’m entering is all wiped.
The app does not work
What is the purpose for this app? It does not save time in the queue and the scanner did not work. There are confusing signs in the area. One says no phones and the other says download the app while waiting. One would think there would be a separate process if the app is used.
